ConCalls: Tough on Crime

Information is the lifeblood of democracy. Stephen Harper knows that, he said it. Ask yourself why the Chief Electoral Officer’s report on electoral fraud this week, is being given to Parliament on the very day when it’s known most Ottawa journalists will be in impermeable rooms so they can get a head start on covering what’s in the latest budget. It looks a bit like Harper is concerned about some lifeblood getting to our bludgeoned democracy.

Democracy Beaten to Death by Phone, RoboCon

Why are there Conservative supporters defending the Prime Minister, instead of democracy and the rule of law? Why aren’t they tough on crime, when catching the criminals may mean putting some Conservatives in jail? How has the Bystander Effect these totalitarians promote, caused the media to pass by democracy, as it lays gasping in a dark ditch? Did journalists forget the fourth estate’s role to come to its aide, and are just going through the motions now to get paycheques? “If no one else seems to care about that bloodied body in the gutter, it must not be important.

I think the code words “tough on crime” actually mean “revenge for crime”, for these Conservatives. Their idea isn’t to prevent future crime through punitive sentences, it’s to get an eye for an eye, or a pound of flesh. That’s why it’s hard for them to understand that even though many Canadians, myself included, do not care for Stephen Harper, most Canadians who feel that way are not out for revenge. There are all kinds of things Harper’s party has done that I don’t agree with politically, but I don’t feel like punishing these people for having a difference of opinion. Why am I passionate about RoboCon then? It’s not a difference of opinion, or an “administrative dispute”. It’s an illegal attempt to gain power through deception, fraud, voter intimidation/harassment, and thousands of Canadians were directly contacted by this criminal conspiracy when put into action last April and May.

Canadians don’t need revenge against the people guilty of RoboCon, we need justice. And for us to have justice, we need more information, and investigators must at least start laying charges against the people they’ve already identified who were part of this conspiracy to defraud Canadians of our democracy. Time’s wasting, and Poutine and his accomplices aren’t getting any less guilty as time passes.
