Because they want to punish his compassion by making him look the hypocrite by the actions they hope to force him into. That seems clear enough.
It’s galling that two rogue senators have so much sway in this razor thin majority, but where the hell is Schumer in all this? Can’t he at least take a cue from McConnell and get these two in line? Sinema and Manchin are given a very loud microphone and always painted as the ones rooting for compromise and are never really held accountable, but yeah, let’s put Bernie on the hot seat. What a mess.
