Bias At CBC Deepens

The scandal of conflict of interest at the CBC has deepened this week, as more questionable payments to the broadcaster by government department Parks Canada were revealed. Then environment Minister Prentice was given favourable coverage in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars in free travel. Prentice is now the Premier of Alberta.

One of the most harmful points of the coverage was allowing Prentice to lie about the Conservatives’ record on greenhouse gas emissions. “We are reducing emissions”; “We’re fulfilling our responsibility.” Prentice was allowed to say without correction. As a result, too many Canadians hold the incorrect view that the Conservatives have reduced emissions, while they’ve only gone up significantly since coming to power (with only a short-lived reduction due to the 2008 global financial crisis).
