Smoking Pot Not As Damaging to Lungs as Cigarettes

Many people come to my blog to read about things neither of us wish were happening, but they want my opinion about it along with some facts I’ve found. Here’s some news that some people may find very interesting, and it backs up a study I remember reading about years ago.

It should be pointed out that the CBC got the headline wrong, because there is always damage from inhaling any smoke into the lungs, the question is why is there less damage from inhaling marijuana smoke, than cigarette smoke. The article didn’t indicate if the pot smokers have lungs comparable to non-smokers or not. I’d expect they do not. The article does mention that pot smokers can still get scratchy coughs in their throats from dryness and irritation.

I’m still opposed to people using pot as a recreational drug, especially if they use it in the presence of those who’d rather not be invited into the expensive habit/addiction. I’d rather every cigarette smoker be exclusively a pot smoker instead, since we’d almost certainly have thousands of fewer cancer deaths each year in Canada, for one thing.

    • Good point, that probably does add significantly to the toxicity of it. I had considered recently that it was reasonably possible to compost old cigarettes and cigars, since they are organic material.

  1. the prohibition of marijuana is idiotic. i know a lot of pot heads, alcoholics, and people addicted to tobacco. take a guess which group have the best quality of life. give up, it isnt the people putting the legal substances in their bodies. call me a hypocrite because i dont smoke weed but do occasionally drink and if i drink too much i do smoke cigarettes but ive seen alcohol ruin far too many lives and weed ruin nothing except a bag of chips and someones ambition temporarily.
