I Remember

Lest We Forget — it’s a phrase not well understood by many people any more. Not only does it sound old, but taken out of context it could mean anything. Most people know it as a sombre expression of remembrance. If we forget the horror of war, we’re doomed to repeat it. Canada has been at war for the past decade. It’s safe to say that plenty of people do not understand “Lest We Forget” anymore.

Occupy Regina as troops march by, from a bank

One such Forgetter is the Mayor of Halifax. I’m proud to be an Occupier, and am disappointed there are so many Forgetters.

When you read this on Saturday morning (or later), it’s possible that the protest camp at Victoria Park in Regina will have been destroyed by police and our own Forgetter, Mayor Fiacco.

Lest We Forget, and go down that terrible path to sending men over the top to die in no-man’s-land again. Are the 99 percent being sent over the top?

This is from early Friday morning. No police came to Victoria Park on Friday, like they did in Halifax. Will they stand down on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, etc. too? The Canadian Constitution says they must, but the constitution of men ordered to break the law and their morals, may not hold forever.

  1. How dare you compare the sacrifice made by the veterans of foreign wars to the bottom dwellers you call “Occupiers”…..for shame !!

But “Saskboy” lets re-cap……for you first it was you nattering on about Climate Change….then the Big Green Lizzy being excluded from the nationally televised debates by the TV consortium…then it was on to WikiLeaks…..then picketing to have the Greens included in the Saskatchewan TV debate…..now its the Occupy movement…..what’s the next big thing ?? ( If you are keeping score it’s Saskboy 0 – everyone else 5). Hopefully with the Sask Party safely enconsced in Saskatchewan for the foreseeable future maybe they will start working on the Saskatchewan “TAR SANDS” !!!!!!!! Now there could be something for you…go get-’em tiger !!

You have become the quintessential ambulance chasing activist……. like an addicted multi-level marketer who jumps from company to company looking for the pot at the end of the rainbow…….but the only pot he finds is full the the stuff you’re shoveling.

But Good Luck with all that….hopefully someday you can look back at you’re wasted youth and have a laugh !! Remember we are not laughing with you we are laughing at you .

    • I dare very easily to speak the truth, because it’s a free country and I have the truth on my side. The troops are not supposed to defend citizens from their own corrupt government, they are supposed to defend us from foreign threats first. When the police fail to protect us from domestic injustice, again it’s left to citizens, not the military. When the politicians and the police are the threats to our constitution, and the rule of law, again it’s citizens’ responsibility to do something to defend it. Occupiers are not fighting a foreign war, they are worldwide fighting a series of domestic struggles to maintain and create democracy. Our armed forces veterans made this peaceful struggle possible, so you dishonour them by disrespecting protesters.

We shouldn’t let our systems degrade to the point of armed conflict to restore democracy. Lest We Forget! Don’t disrespect their sacrifice by creating more need for it.

As far as the score goes Mooner, it only counts in the history books when the game is over, and right now it’s not over.

But you’re right, I’m wasting too much time talking to close minded old farts giggling to themselves in their basement. Have an excellent weekend.

    • I don’t entirely approve of all of SaskBoy’s enthusiasms. The left can be unrealistic, puerile, inconsistent, and tiresome. But so can any organization that is composed of human beings, and it’s the big picture we have to look at if we’re going to use terms like “the left” and “the right.”

The fact remains that over the last several centuries, ironic as it seems, the left has been right far more often than the “right.” Climate change? Check, though some people are still trying to lie and deny their way out of that. The war in Iraq? Check. Gay rights, or more properly, human rights for gays? Check. Justice for the victims of residential schools and other church-run rape and abuse factories? Check.

Let’s go back a bit. Racial discrimination and “separate but equal”? Check. Native land claim rights? Check. The right to unionize? Check. Women’s rights? Check. Votes for women and non-white persons? Check.

Do I really have to go on through the last two hundred years? If you discard morality entirely, and just go at the matter as a betting man, the only sane thing to do would be to bet “left” every single time. Sure, you’d find yourself embracing pseudo-science, conspiracy theory, and odd-smelling foreign tyrants on occasion. But you’d end up with a balance sheet far less stained with blood and stupidity than anyone who took the opposite positions.

  3. This is the wave the Liberal Party needs to catch. But they are waiting for others to break the ground for them, instead of being bold. That is what I have come to expect from them, based on 6 decades of experience and watching closely from the sidelines these past 10 yrs.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
