Close to schools, day cares and community centres. (the neighbours can be a little loud, but we find it’s easiest just to ignore them)Buyers must be prepared to hold $500M in cash for oil spill liability, which we think is such a low likelihood that we haven’t even done any modelling.Asking $9B (CAD) OBO. Husky Might Be Fined

Husky has only been charged now by the Crown, for a spill nearly 2 years ago. Federal charges may be pending too. The provincial charges carry a possible fine of only $1M. Great deal for an oil company, to operate and ruin the water supply of Saskatchewan’s 3 largest city and many other people too.

A report from the province is being delayed until after a possible appeal, making it many years since the spill until others can learn important details and possibly solutions.

Here’s a blog post from way back about the spill.

Miami Bridge Collapses

Why did the ABC bridge have its pivot supports removed before the overhead support cables visible in the finished design were installed?

Community gathers to watch 950-ton bridge move across Southwest 8th Street

Leonor Flores ’98 is a project executive and one of 63 FIU alumni who work for MCM, the construction firm building the FIU-Sweetwater UniversityCity Bridge, which will further connect FIU and its northerly neighbor, the City of Sweetwater. She was excited to share her work with her family, especially Michelle, who is interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in school.

Michelle said she might want to follow in her parents’ footsteps and go to FIU when the time comes, and that it was fascinating to see her mom’s work in action. “I’m interested in the architecture and the design of the bridge, and the math portion of it,” she said.

Said Leonor: “It’s very important for me as a woman and an engineer to be able to promote that to my daughter, because I think women have a different perspective. We’re able to put in an artistic touch and we’re able to build, too.”

The pedestrian bridge, which crosses Southwest 8th Street at the 109th Avenue intersection, will provide a safer crossing of the eight-lane thoroughfare for the 4,200 FIU students living in Sweetwater. Between its walkways and plazas, it will also provide 9,900 square feet of gathering and event space

Amarillo Police Shoot the “Good Guy With A Gun”

This is pretty much how you could imagine things would go wrong if you were caught disarming a crazed gunman before or as police arrive on the scene.

Garces and Blackburn are working with the city to ensure the medical bills are paid, but Garces hopes for one other item: More education for officers on deadly use of force.

“Train them better, man,” said Garces. “That guy didn’t know what he was doing.”

He asked to have the bullet taken out of his chest as a souvenir, a reminder of how quickly life can change.

“I got the gun,” he said. “I thought it was over. but they the cops shot me. The good guys shot me.”

In the wake of the Parkland school shooting, and the survivors tackling the NRA corruption problem in the USA, we’re also being fed the utter hooey that school teachers should have guns to keep children safe. The thought of my parents, or other teachers as carting a gun around school, is indescribable. English doesn’t have a single word to describe the feeling that you’ve left your dimension for an alternate evil mirror universe, but it’s possibly what rising fascism is supposed to feel like to people who question it.

Twitter Suspended Victim

Some days (most days) Twitter really sucks at limiting abuse, and supporting victims of the same.

And closer to home, a long time blogging and Twitter friend has been in the news, but I missed it. She was sexually assaulted by another well known figure in the Saskatchewan Twitter & political sphere. She was then questioned inappropriately by Saskatoon Police about the assault.
