  1. Unfortunately, John, we have just one opposition leader still fighting to win this election. The other is fighting to salvage second place. To do that he’s focusing his efforts on attacking the other opposition leader instead of Harper. That’s what Canada has endured from the New Democrats ever since Layton took over and Harper has been quietly grateful for all the help.

    • Unfortunately, John, we have just one opposition leader still fighting to win this election. The other is fighting to salvage second place. To do that he’s focusing his efforts on attacking the other opposition leader instead of Harper. That’s what Canada has endured from the Liberals ever since Ignatieff took over from Dion’s coalition, and Harper has been quietly grateful for all the help.

I didn’t even know which opposition leader you were talking about until the forth sentence, so I changed it a little so you could see what I mean.

Years ago I thought Trudeau was a lock for winning. Then during the campaign weeks ago I thought Mulcair could pull off an Orange Wave as power-voters swung to him to crush Harper. Now, I think it’s just as likely a Harper majority will squeak by again. Nerve wracking times we’re in.

  2. Extremely disturbing parallels.

“tip line will be established that citizens and victims can call with information about incidents of barbaric cultural practices in Canada ”

“Goldhagen’s theme was that “what the Nazis actually did was to unshackle and thereby activate Germans’ pre-existing, pent-up anti-semitism”.

Gellately began his inquiry after finding a press report -published as routine – of a woman reported to the Gestapo for “looking Jewish” and allegedly having sex with a neighbour. “For decades my generation had been told that so much of the terror had been carried out in complete secrecy,” he writes.”
